The Bradford Sweet Poisoning
SEASON 1 : EPISODE 8
AUGUST 10, 2022
There’s many reasons why true crime is fascinating but I think at some point every true crime fan has run across a story that’s made them stop and think, “I don’t know if I can listen to this anymore…”
But every once in awhile something redeeming comes out one of these stories - there’s a foundation set up or a law that’s enacted. That is one of the things I personally really like about true crime.
I’ll give you an example: Why do you think it is that if you need a medication, you have to go to a doctor - a board certified doctor - who will write you a script to be handed directly to the pharmacist? And only the trained, certified pharmacist can fill that medication for you?
The Pharmacy Act of 1868 is why! Before then, there were no rules; zero regulation for the storing or dispensing of what we today call “controlled substances.” The story I have for you tonight, was a big influencer in correcting that. This is the story of the Bradford Sweet poisoning.
